Are we Alone here ?

Is there anyone out there? Hey, do you hear us guys? No, I’m not shouting for you dear readers, doing it for Alien Civilizations out there around us, if they any.

This is an old question asking whether there are any intelligent life form within our universe. One of the biggest and longest-standing question in the history. It’s been very challenging to obtain good number of possible extraterrestrial civilizations. Researchers have now shed a new light on the study that says/calculates there could be more than 30 intelligent civilizations throughout our galaxy Milky Way with the capability of long-distance communication here in the Milky Way. Researcher assumed that intelligent life not only exist on Earth but develops on other planets similarly to how it does on Earth.

How they made this conclusion:

To estimate this number of civilizations in our galaxy, they took into account two major- “Astrobiological Copernican limits” or conditions that such intelligent civilizations would depend on.

In the first factor they assume that intelligent life forms in less than 5 billion years or after about 5 billion years- similar to what has happened on Earth where life began approximately 4.54 billion years ago.

In second criterion, they focused on star. They estimated that the planet with intelligent life would orbit a star like our sun because life has formed here on Earth, which orbits the sun. This sun like stars would have “a metal content equal to that of sun” said Tom Westby, a first author on the research paper.

In addition to these Astrobiological factors, scientists focused in technological capability. The number of civilizations depend strongly upon how long they can actively sending out signals of their existence into space, such as radio transmission from satellite, televisions, etc. So, using our civilization as an example for a potential of extraterrestrial one, we have been technologically advanced for about 100 years. Taking this criteria into account, researchers made an approximate estimation of intelligent civilizations that could be exist in Milky way. They calculated around “36 active civilizations in our galaxy”

The average distance to these alien worlds would be approximately 17,000 light-years, too far for humans to establish a contact with existing technologies, according to researchers. Despite of the new estimate, researchers also stated that it’s still very possible that we could be alone in the galaxy or if any other civilization exist, they might not survive for as long as humankind has and so we might not exist at the same time(point of concern).

“If we find that intelligent life is common, then this would reveal that our civilization could exist for much longer than a few hundred years, alternatively, if we find that there are no active civilizations in our galaxy, it is bad sign for our own long-term existence. By searching for extraterrestrial Intelligent life- even if we find nothing -we are discovering our own future and fate,” said prof. Conselice
