1. The White Tiger – Netflix

The film presents the journey of Balram, played by Adarsh Gourav coping with poverty, inequality and rebellion. While starting Priyanka Chopra and Rajkumar Rao, the two hour film uses a neo-realistic approach to analyze the impact of globalization on the lower castes.

2. Pagglait – Netflix- One of the most underrated bollywood movies

Pagglait is a simple and delightful story about a woman who became widow shortly after marriage but her behavior did not meet the expectations of her family, annoying relatives and society. It is a story of a protagonist which revolves around three important events: the death of her husband, a photograph of her husband’s ex girlfriend and 50 lakh insurance left by her husband. Sanya Malhotra plays a leading role in a moderate family drama starring Sayani Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Shruti Sharma abd Ashutosh Rana.

The movie is directed by Umesh Bist which captures a typical orthodox Hindu family in grief and nuanced approach to relationships. However, the brilliant performance by the actors, makes it a delight to watch.

3. Nail Polish – Zee5

Nail Polish is a court room drama which revolves around the Rape and Murder of two migrant children by a very eminent personality of the society. As the evidences become stronger against the eminent personality, the case takes a very interesting turn which puts the viewers, lawyers and judge into an ethical-cum-legal paradox. You gotta watch the film to know what exactly happened, why it happened, how it happened and what was the final judgment.

The cast of the film was splendid, starring Manav kaul, Arjun Rampal, Anand Tiwari and Rajit Kapur. The war between the human mind and body gives it a unique twist. 4. Skater Girl – Netflix- Also appears in our most underrated bollywood movies of 2021

Skater Girl is India’s first skateboarding movie. Directed and written by Manjari Makinjany and co-written by Vinati Makinjany. Skater Girl is a story of a low caste girl from rural Rajashtan, who dreams of becoming skater and fulfilled by a foreign woman of Indian origin. Inspirational movie with a social message and promising performance by everyone, especially the kids who have acted so naturally. Rachel Sanchita Gupta as Prerna steals the show with her effortless performance.

Despite its status as as sports drama, the film exposes the caste system that permits in Indian society as well as anti-feminism in the household and society. This is a heartfelt film that will make you smile.

5. Sherni – Amzon Prime Video

The movie revolves around Forest officer and its team who are looking for the tigress and it captures bitter truth of the society. It follows Man vs Wild conflict. Vidya Balan in her character of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) is honest. The supporting actors Sharat Saxena, Mukul Chadda, Brijendra Kala, Neeraj Kabi and Vinay Raaz have done their job well. At one moment you will think that you are watching national geography and not Amazon Prime.

Cinematography and background score is outstanding. The minute details will make you fall for the movie and the credit goes to the director Amit Masurkar. The film somehow manages to relate both Shernis (Vidya and the real tigress) feeling trapped in the net of our selfish and egoist patriarchal society.
